Why has nudity become a sign of progress in the eyes of people?
Why Nudity is Considered "Progressive" and Why Islam Rejects It
If you observe your surroundings carefully, you will notice something strange. The more a woman exposes her body, the more she is said to be "liberated." And when a man asks his wife, sister, or daughter to dress modestly… he is called "backward."
The real question is not: who is right? The more important question is: how did these standards change? How did nudity become a sign of progress while modesty became a flaw?
1. What Psychology Says About This Shift
Psychology identifies several key phenomena:
A. Attention Economy
Today’s world runs on attracting attention. The more exciting something is… the more it captures eyes. Since the body is one of the most attention-grabbing things, it has become a fast way to gain fame and interaction. This has led to a dangerous shift: a woman’s value is no longer only in her personality or mind… but in her ability to attract attention. This is not true liberation but turning the body into a display tool.
B. Need for External Validation
Humans need to feel appreciated. But when validation is based only on likes, glances, and appearance… it creates a psychological dependence on others’ opinions. Some women begin constantly seeking external confirmation of their worth. Not because they are weak… but because society teaches them their value depends on it.
C. Social Pressure
Humans naturally imitate others. When everyone does something, it gradually becomes accepted even if initially rejected. This is what psychologists call Normalization. What was once unacceptable… becomes acceptable over time.
2. Why Some Men Accept This
Here lies a sensitive point. Some men have lost the natural sense of protective jealousy. Jealousy in Islam is not a disease… it is protection and dignity. A man who does not care about the boundaries of his wife or sister is not considered strong but has lost one of the key traits of true manhood: guarding honor and privacy.
3. How Islam Views Women
Islam never viewed women as commodities. Instead, it sees them as precious values. The idea of hijab and modesty is not to hide women… but to protect them from being reduced to just their bodies. Islam wants women to be: respected, protected, and valued— in one word: Queen.
4. Traits of a “Queen”
When we imagine a real queen… do we imagine her chasing attention? Or having dignity and boundaries? A queen does not interact with everyone equally. She has a respected presence. Her clothing reflects her status. She does not need to prove her worth by attracting attention. Respect surrounds her because she knows her value. This is exactly what Islam wants for women.
5. Real Freedom vs. Illusory Freedom
Real freedom means choosing what preserves your dignity. But when society pressures women to expose themselves more to be socially accepted… is this really freedom? Or a type of subtle coercion? Islam simply says: a woman’s value is not measured by how much skin she shows, but by her mind, ethics, and faith.
Conclusion
This is not a war between men and women. The question is: do we want a world where women are reduced to their bodies? Or a world where they are treated as full-value human beings? Islam chose the latter. It does not ask women to disappear from society, but to be present with dignity, not with their bodies. Hijab and modesty are not signs of backwardness… but declarations that a woman’s value is greater than being a display for attention.
